RUCST | Kids Cup Success for St Marys Herringthorpe Catholic Primary

11 February 2019

Sponsored by

As part of our Community Trust’s work in local primary schools, children from Aston All Saints C of E Primary School visited the AESSEAL New York Stadium as part of our Supporter to Reporter Programme.

The children had a day to remember which included actives such as a stadium tour, physical actives, recount writing and an invitation to watch the Millers reserve game against Mansfield Town at the stadium.

Supporter to Reporter is a unit of literacy work delivered in schools that engages children through genres of writing in a number of ways including player profiles, recounts, newspaper reports and information leaflets. Children and schools have the opportunity to engage with Rotherham United in a fun and interactive way including opportunities to attend Rotherham FC fixtures, meet the players/management and visit the stadium. All units of work are written in line with the National Curriculum objectives.

“The children really engaged within the Supporter to Reporter programme and as a reward were able to come and visit the stadium! We use sport and Rotherham United as a tool to inspire children through sporting activities and tasks, which gives them the enthusiasm for the academic subjects” added Claire Robertson, Primary Education Coordinator for Rotherham United Community Sports Trust.
