READ | Rotherham County celebrate century since first league fixture

30th August marked 100 years to the day since Rotherham County’s first ever league game at Millmoor.

Rotherham County, who had previously been known as Thornhill United, became members of the second division of the Football League in 1919 and played their first official fixture in the competition 100 years ago against Nottingham Forest.

Their maiden outing ended in a 2-0 win for County with Tom Cawley and Frankie Lee netting the first goals on the Football League’s records for their side.

The Rotherham County team on the day was as follows:

Jimmy Branston; Charles Alton, Fred Baines; Hedley Bailey, Fred Coe, Bill Stanton; Frankie Lee, Tom Cawley, Teddy Glennon, Joe Lees, Sammy Lamb.
