A summer to remember!

Are you between 15-17 years old? Fancy a change this summer? Want to meet new people, experience new things and discover a new you? The NCS summer programme could be for you!

The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a 4 week programme which aims to give 15-17 year olds a life changing experiencing. Mums and dads, want to give your teenagers the chance to experience something truly different, life changing and rewarding for the price of £35! Then read on for more details.

The NCS programme runs over 4 weeks with many exciting activities to keep you active, pushing your own boundaries and learning a great many things.

  • Adventure Your first residential is where you’ll experience the freedom of living away from home whilst making new friends and taking part in fun-filled outdoor activities such as abseiling, rock climbing and canoeing.
  • Discovery Your second residential where you experience University life in your own dorm, cooking your own meals with friends and learning about yourself; with a variety of workshops offered in the University. Let us see who can cook up the best meal in our Masterchef challenge or do you wish to learn first aid skills to save a life or self-defence to help save your own one day? You’ll be able to put new skills onto your CV and UCAS personal statements.
  • Action Working with your new friends to make a difference in Rotherham! Work as a team to deliver a community project which has a lasting positive impact for many. Some of our projects included raising over £1000 for each charitable cause including; Amy’s House, Safe@Last, Children’s Hospital Charity as well as revamping the gardens of Broadacres Care Home and Wentworth Woodhouse. What could you help with this year?
  • Graduation To finish off your experience graduate in style to celebrate your successes over the past four weeks. Graduation opens many doors as a graduate of NCS where you could be part of the graduate youth board, volunteering at NCS events and helping to shape the future of NCS programmes.

Many of our graduates and parents speak highly of the NCS programme. Find out why below.

Parent of a wave 2 participant: “It’s given my daughter some fantastic experience in life skills and knowledge of what to expect when going away to university which is why this is valuable”

Young Person on wave 5: “NCS was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone as it teaches confidence and new skills. NCS also led me to make friends I’ll have for life!”

Parent of wave 5 participant: “My son has made so many new friends, gained loads of confidence in himself and generally had the time of his life these holidays. He’s been out and about or 4 full weeks and seemed to have not worried about impending GCSE results, I’m really impressed with the NCS programme.

Young person on wave 6: “I thoroughly enjoyed my experience on NCS, I wouldn’t have changed anything about it and wish I could do it all over again”.

Last year, we had 754 participants with 112 of those becoming NCS graduates. 22 young people attend regular youth board meetings and 1 young person went on to become part of the Regional Youth Board.
