Rotherham United’s Academy were edged out in a five-goal thriller after a 3-2 defeat at Mansfield Town.
Goals from midfielder Mitchell Carlton and a third in two games from Northern Ireland youth international Tyrone Lewthwaite proved in vein, as the Stage completed a turnaround when the Millers looked well placed to continue their unbeaten run.
Lewis Davies had put the hosts in front, before the Millers battled to establish a 2-1 lead, but Tyrese Sinclair’s sensational free-kick restored parity.
With the game locked at 2-2, Mansfield snatched the decisive goal when Rhys Sarson swept the ball past Ellis at the far stick following a well-worked corner.
