Rotherham United Community Sports Trust are continuing the delivery of a men’s health project across Rotherham.

The programme aims to reduce social isolation, increase community integration and improve both physical and mental well-being amongst middle-aged men who, for whatever reason, whether it be work stress, being financially worried, or a general feeling of being fed up, are at risk of poor mental health.

According to recent studies, poor mental health can negatively impact on physical wellbeing while poor physical health and lead to an increased risk of developing mental health issues.

Our project #headinthegame focuses on both physical and emotional well-being by offering a combination of free weekly physical exercise sessions and free monthly wellbeing workshops at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The physical sessions will be based around the activity of football whilst the workshops will provide advice and support around managing stress, improving confidence, understanding anxiety and depression and more.

In addition to the above, any fan that signs up will receive free match tickets to selected home games this season.

Whether you are experiencing a tough time, need to lose a few pounds or simply want to get out more, we are here to help!

So if you fancy a kick about then get in touch for more information by contacting Christos Louca on 01709 827767 or clouca@rotherhamunited.net.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT…

World Mental Health Day – 10th October

The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and active efforts in support of mental health.

Mental health problems can affect anyone, any day of the year, but 10th October is a great day to show your support for better mental health and start looking after your own well-being.

Every year one adult in four, along with one child in 10, will have a mental health issue. These conditions can profoundly affect literally millions of lives, affecting the capability of these individuals to make it through the day, to sustain relationships, and to maintain work.

It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem worldwide while 4-10% of people in England will experience depression in their lifetime.

The stigma attached to mental health causes a damaging, albeit ill-informed attitude, making it more difficult for those affected to pursue help. According to UK estimates, only about one-quarter of those with mental health problems undergo ongoing treatment. In contrast, the vast majority of those affected with these problems are faced with a variety of issues, ranging from isolation to uncertainty on where to get help or information, to relying on the informal support of family, friends or colleagues.

Come along to our Understanding Issues in Mental Health Workshop on Monday 29th October at the AESSEAL New York Stadium from 6-8pm.

It will be a chance to improve your knowledge regarding the subject and also provide a safe place to talk about any issues you may be facing.

Please contact Christos Louca on 01709 827767 or clouca@rotherhamunited.net if you would like to sign up.
