Hamshaw joins walkers in raising money in memory of Luke...

Rotherham United first team/development coach Matt Hamshaw was one of many fundraisers involved in a twilight walk in memory of Luke Billups on Sunday night.

Hamshaw was joined by his family for the fundraiser which is raising money for the Rotherham Hospice, who helped care for Luke during his battle with a brain tumour and is a charity that many people in the area have had contact with during their lives.

“I was honoured to take part in raising money for such a worthy cause. Luke was the son of some good friends of the family, Dave and Christine, and it was something that really hit home with everyone connected my own family,” he explained.

“We did a six mile walk which was exceptionally well-attended, leaving The Gate pub in Swinton at 5:30pm. I think the turnout was more than everyone had anticipated and there was nearly 100 people there, which was great to see.

“It’s a fantastic charity to support and some of the stories I heard on the way around makes you realise how lucky we are to have such a fantastic care facility here in Rotherham.”
