Millers defeated in South Yorkshire

Rotherham United’s Academy were defeated in South Yorkshire derby action as near-neighbours Doncaster Rovers triumphed 5-2 at Roundwood.

Former Millers defender Paul Stancliffe oversaw the victory for Rovers at the Millers’ training ground which included a Myron Gibbons hat-trick, added to goals from Jack Watson and Rieves Boocock.

In-form forward Tyrone Lewthwaite was once again on target for Rotherham, whilst recently-signed scholar Jacques Etia also found the back of the net.

The game saw the Millers youngsters show good resolve early on to come from behind and take an early second half 2-1 lead, but the visitors rallied and restored parity soon after.

Following a well-worked set piece routine Rovers were back ahead and didn’t look back with Boocock capping the scoreline with a sumptuous finish from 35 yards.

Millers: Ellis; Beeden (Hodgkinson 81), Southern-Cooper, Hull, Millen; Gratton, Peel Evans (Gateshill 41), Carlton, Hutchinson; Etia (Spence 74), Lewthwaite.
