Rotherham United’s Random Act of Kindness recently prompted the Millers to host an afternoon to remember for lifelong Glyn Owen, as part of our scheme that sees the club randomly offering match day experiences to our loyal supporters.
Rotherham United Community Sports Trust were contacted by Glyn’s daughter Glynis Bowden to initially arrange a stadium tour for her 87 year old father, with his opportunities to visit AESSEAL New York Stadium having decreased over the last few years as he cares for his wife in their Nottinghamshire home. Glyn has been attending games for over 50 years and the Community Sports Trust team wanted to ensure his next visit to the Stadium was extra special.
“We are blessed to have such loyal and dedicated fans and listening to Glyn talk so passionately about football on the stadium tour meant that it was only fitting that he watched the warm up from the home dugout, Paul Warne’s seat to be exact! Glyn was reminiscing about the best Rotherham teams he has seen over the years, however, we are keen to welcome him back every week as he is clearly a good omen as the result against Swansea proved,” added Rotherham United Community Sports Trust Operations Manager Gary Webb.
“I just wanted to thank everyone involved for the kind hospitality show to my Dad, who had a great afternoon. It’s been years since he attended a Rotherham game at the old ground as a fan and as a Special Constable, he has followed Rotherham for as long as I can remember! I actually I used to go with him at around the age of 8 and I’m now 58 so that’s quite a fan you have in him! Dad doesn’t drive anymore and now lives in Nottinghamshire so it is a fair way for him to attend the games but does watch them on TV when they are televised. Dad absolutely loved it we will never hear the end of it,” Glyn’s daughter Glynis explained.
