Millers overcome Walsall in penultimate reserve game...

Rotherham United’s reserves overcame Walsall 2-1 in their penultimate Central League fixture of 2017/18 at Roundwood.

Goals either side of the interval from Jerry Yates and Moussa Diouf proved enough to see off the challenge of the Saddlers despite Joe Cairns replying for the visitors.

Yates opened the scoring in some style as he tamed a ball over the top with his first touch and lashed an effort into the far corner with his second, before Cairns’ smart finish on the angle proved enough to beat Laurence Bilboe and restore parity.

Substitute Diouf won it for Ciaran Toner’s side, when he found space at the back post following a Reece McGinley cross from the right, which caused a collision between goalkeeper and defender to leave him with the simplest of tap-ins to win it.

Rotherham | Bilboe, Carlton, Johnson, Osborne, Atherton, Southern-Cooper, McGinley, Wiles, James, Yates, Maguire.

Subs | McMahon, Martin, Lewthwaite, Diouf.

Walsall |Ganley, Mason, Shergill, Petrovics, Kendrick, Ruddock, O'Sullivan, Mellon, Moss, Cairns.

Subs | McSkeane, Rogerson, Willis.
