Clark Robertson talks for the first time as a Rotherham United player...

New Rotherham United signing Clark Robertson says his move to AESSEAL New York Stadium was the ‘right fit’ as he looks to progress his career with a divisional step up to join the newly-promoted Championship side.

The former Aberdeen defender enjoyed promotion from League Two with Blackpool before becoming a regular a level higher in the third tier for the Seasiders last term, but the 24-year-old admits that he feels that he is ready to progress his career with the Millers as he moves up the pyramid again.

“I think it's the right step in my career to come here,” Robertson said upon signing the deal.

“The last two years have probably been the best football I've played in my career so far and I think coming here is the right fit for me at the right time.

“Hopefully I can come here and play well and develop even further under the manager.

“I had other offers in League One but I think I've got to test myself in the Championship and I feel as though I'm ready to do that.”

Robertson continued to add that it wasn’t just the club that felt right, with first team boss Warne playing a major role in his decision to join the Millers.

“I'm absolutely buzzing to be honest. It's been a long time coming to be fair. I came down and met the manager and I got a good feel for the place,” he continued.

“The manager was enthusiastic about everything and he was desperate to get me in the door and when you feel that wanted it makes you want to come to the club, so I'm delighted to get it done.

“I think he'll be a good man-manager for myself and he's very enthusiastic and I can't wait to get started because I think he'll be good for me and my development.”

“I think when I came down Paul Warne sold me on the team spirit that they have here and they've got a good group of players and the facilities here you can't complain about. I played here last game of the season and the pitch was in great nick so I can't wait to get out there and show what I'm all about.”

Whilst the centre back doesn’t know any of the current Millers side personally, he will be familiar with a number of the faces having played against them on two occasions last season. Robertson admitted his early impressions were good and is hopeful he can bring his own qualities to the side this season.

“They play a good style of football and they've got a young squad which will be good to fit into. I think we had two tough games against them last season and I think they're a good football side,” he added.

“I like to get on the ball and I like to play out from the back. I'm a ball-playing centre back but I know how to defend as well and I'm not scared to put the ball into Row Z if need be, but first and foremost I try and play forward.”
