Rotherham United have appointed Richard Hairyes as the club’s new Academy Manager.

Richard will take up his post with immediate effect during an exciting time for the academy, following today’s news that Akeem Hinds became the third player to be handed a professional deal for next season.

Richard is no stranger to the club having coached in the academy, as well as holding the club’s head of academy recruitment position during his time with the Millers.

On the news of his appointment, Richard said:

“I am very pleased to have been offered the role, and equally pleased that the club have decided to put their faith in me to try and take the academy onto the next step. I think our academy is in a very good place, but at the same time I believe that we are only scratching the surface, and hopefully over the next few years we can really take it forward quickly.”

The appointment is not the only exciting news coming out of the academy, with Richard also confirming that the club will also be shortly announcing a new head of academy coaching.

“We are very close to announcing a new head of coaching which we are all excited about and I think that will help the club move forward,” he added.

"I think there are number of things we are looking to achieve quickly, in terms of putting some new procedures and structures in place. The staff are all on board which is obviously really important.

"If you look at the academy now we are strong in every single age group. We can get stronger and we want to be bringing more players forward. We are excited that in Akeem Hinds we have taken through another professional for next season, and we are confident that there will be more to come on that over the next few years.”
