Rotherham United have secured the signing of experienced former Premier League defender Billy Jones, subject to EFL ratification.
The versatile operator has signed a two-year deal after successfully completing a medical this morning, and becomes Paul Warne’s fourth summer recruit.
The 31-year-old joins the Millers after ending a four-year association with Sunderland, where he made 96 appearances for the Black Cats.
Born in Shrewsbury, Jones made his name at the famed academy at Crewe Alexandra, eventually graduating to first-team level, enjoying three seasons at Championship level with the Alex.
After relegation he returned to the second tier after signing for Preston ion 2007, and in his second season at Deepdale he helped the Liliywhites to the Championship Play-offs.
In 2011 Jones made the step up to Premier League level after agreeing a move to West Bromwich Albion. He enjoyed three years at The Hawthorns before switching to the Stadium of Light in 2014.
