Millers conclude Austrian training camp with a win..

Rotherham United concluded their fixtures on Austrian soil with a 1-0 win over local side SC Wiener Neustadt.

The Millers followed up the 0-0 draw at Sportschule Lindabrunn with SKU Amstetten with a win on Saturday, as Michael Smith’s early goal secured the result.

Paul Warne’s side came racing out of the blocks and were ahead before two minutes when a Will Vaulks long throw eventually dropped kindly for Smith, who swept home from close range to put the Millers in front.

Jon Taylor and Joe Newell looked to provide the ammunition for a second from both flanks in the following minutes but the Millers were unable to capitalise.

The hosts did fight back however and having enjoyed a decent spell of possession, they delivered a few dangerous crosses of their own.

Shortly before the interval goalkeeper Lewis Price had to be alert to the action, as a home free kick whistled narrowly wide of his goal.

The Millers looked to extend their advantage following the restart and came close to doing so with Newell and Taylor again looking dangerous in the wide areas.

Vaulks almost registered his first long range goal of the season on 55 minutes but his effort flew narrowly over the crossbar.

A whole host of changes saw a number of Millers players move into less familiar positions on the pitch, as Warne looked to ensure the majority of his squad were handed game time.

Anthony Forde was the most dangerous of those introduced, despite having to deputise at right back in the closing stages, with the home ‘keeper called into action to deny him on a couple of occasions.

Youngster Joshua Kayode had the final chance of the game as he met Forde’s corner, only to see his header go just wide of the target.
