Rotherham United would like to congratulate club partner Hornbuckle’s trio of fundraisers, who embarked upon the epic journey on foot from their headquarters in Leicester to AESSEAL New York Stadium in aid of the Bodie Hodges Foundation.
Paul Mason, Sam Wain and James Waterlow donned their walking boots for the long trek from Leicester to South Yorkshire, arriving in Rotherham in time for a pre-match drink and a pie to re-energise before taking up a seat in the stand for the Millers’ last minute win against Portsmouth.
Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul, Sam and James for their fundraising efforts and thank any Millers fans who have already donated to the cause.
“We’d like to place on record our thanks to Rotherham United for their fantastic hospitality at Saturday’s game against Portsmouth,” Paul told www.themillers.co.uk.
“They supplied the kit in which we travelled in, in addition to the much needed publicity on their website and Twitter page.
“We endured a pretty gruelling three days of walking, and taking into account Saturday’s walk, we had completed 65+ miles in that time. It all seemed worthwhile on our arrival and we had our pictures taken as if we were part of the squad, and that’s how we felt.
“We had a target in mind of £1000 at the start of the challenge, but we anticipate that we have raised closer to £1200 by the final count, which is a fantastic amount, and it couldn’t be done without the support of the club and staff for which we are most grateful for.
“These are much needed funds for the Bodie Hodges Foundation, and will continue to help with the upkeep of “Bodie’s Boathouse” that the charity manage in order to support families of a bereaved child. This is in addition to the ongoing work they are doing in relation to organ donation, and encouraging people to sign the organ donation register.”
Rotherham United Commercial Director Steve Coakley was also keen to express his congratulations to the trio upon the completion of their epic trip to AESSEAL New York Stadium.
“We were delighted to be a part of Paul, Sam and James’ fundraising efforts as they undertook a mammoth task in joining us on foot all the way from the Hornbuckle base in Leicester,” he explained.
“We were really proud that the trio were sporting the Rotherham United branding and we were delighted to supply them with the kit for the journey.
“They have raised a fantastic total for a great cause and it just reiterates how proud we are of our affiliation with our friends over at Hornbuckle.”
