David Ball talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

IT is a common perception in the footballing sphere that often the best strike partnerships are those whereby a nippy, forward-thinking striker is operating with a tall front-man who can often do the hard yards and look to dominate opposition defenders in the aerial duels, giving his strike partner the space and opportunity to weave magic in the attacking third of the pitch.

Despite being in the infancy of their strike partnership, recent signing Michael Smith and David Ball have whet the appetite of the AESSEAL New York Stadium faithful by forming an immediate understanding in the final third, with Smith arguably proving the perfect foil for Ball who is well-adept at playing in-between the lines.

“He's come into a really good, positive group and done well," he told www.themillers.coluk

"The gaffer and the lads have got their arm around him and welcomed him really well and he has shone with his recent performances.

"The partnership worked really well. There have been some really good early signs that there are goals between the two of us and I'm looking forward to it."

Smith netted his first goal for the club in the recent win against Bradford City, before opening the scoring last time out against AFC Wimbledon.

Ball then grabbed the second goal in stoppage time to ensure both found themselves on the score-sheet, as the Millers continued their unbeaten run.

The former Manchester City front-man says the recent form has helped boost what was already a great spirit inside the Millers' dressing room.

“There's a great spirit about the group and the staff and the lads are all together," he added.

"There is a lovely feeling about it and we are getting more and more confident and it would be great to keep that run going. If we do this no doubt we will be where we want to be at the end of the season."
