Richie Towell returns on loan...

Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the return of League One promotion winner Richie Towell on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, subject to FA and Premier League clearance.

The popular midfielder has agreed a loan move until the end of May as boss Paul Warne beat today’s 5pm transfer deadline.

Towell, heavily linked for a return to the Millers ever since the Play-off Final victory over Shrewsbury in May, made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring six goals – with his strike against Northampton winning the goal of the season award.

Warne, who has waited patiently to strengthen his engine room, adds the Irishman to a midfield that includes fellow new boy Ryan Manning, last season’s player of the year Will Vaulks and ex-Burton ace Matt Palmer.

Towell, 26, first came to English shores with Brighton in 2016, after a successful spell in his native Ireland where he enjoyed a goal-laden stint with Dundalk.

Earlier in his career he also enjoyed spells with Celtic and Hibernian.

The Millers are currently awaiting clearance to allow Towell to potentially be involved in the matchday squad at Wigan Athletic.
