With boss Paul Warne allowing some of his first-team squad out on loan at the start of this season, we aim to stay in touch with their progress in our Loan Watch report.

During the close season, young striker Jerry Yates joined League Two Carlisle United on a deal until January, Dom Ball returned to on a season-long deal to Aberdeen whilst Ben Purrington signed a similar deal with League One AFC Wimbledon.

Yates, 21, made the lengthy opening day pilgrimage from Carlisle to Exeter and started for John Sheridan’s side in a wide position as part of a front three. The youngster enjoyed 80 minutes before being withdrawn, but it was a tough start for the Cumbrians who were beaten 3-1.

Ball was a starter for Aberdeen yesterday as the Dons hosted Steven Gerrard’s Rangers at Pittodrie. Despite conceding a penalty, the 23-year-old, who started at right-back, helped his side to an equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time.

Finally, ex-Plymouth full-back Purrington was also a starter at the weekend as AFC Wimbledon recorded a notable opening day result. Purrington played 90 minutes in his traditional left-back position as Neal Ardley’s side won 1-0 at Fleetwood Town.
