Supporters' Club make £500 donation to Rotherham Hospice children's group...

Rotherham United would like to thank the Rotherham United Supporters’ Club for their kind donation of £500 to the Rotherham Hospice.

Representatives from the Millers official supporters’ group were joined by first team boss Paul Warne, Richie Barker, John Breckin and staff and children from the Sunbeams Group at the Broom-based charity last week as they handed over a cheque to support the children’s bereavement group.

Sunbeams is a charity-funded group run by the Rotherham Hospice which supports children who have lost, or are soon to lose a loved one, to help them to go through the stages of bereavement with special support.

Former Millers player Frazer Richardson and current midfielder Will Vaulks have both attended the group as special guests, whilst Club Consultant John Breckin has been a regular supporter of the group since it began in 2011.

“On behalf of everyone at Rotherham United, I’d like to thank the Supporters’ Club for this very generous donation to a fantastic group up at the hospice,” Breckin told www.themillers.co.uk.

“It’s a fantastic gesture and one that helps to ensure that this group can continue to support youngsters who have been unfortunate enough to lose a loved one so early in their lives.

“Everyone in the town knows of my admiration for the work that the Rotherham Hospice does and I personally have first-hand experience of seeing the wonderful service that the Sunbeams group provides for our community.

“It’s such a worthy cause and we’ll all know of someone that the hospice has helped generally.”

Children’s Bereavement Support Nurse Cath Todd, who was in attendance to receive the cheque and meet the representatives from the Supporters’ Club, expressed her gratitude to both the fans and club staff in attendance at the hospice last week.

“On behalf of the children, the volunteers and the staff at Sunbeams, I would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone associated with the Supporters’ Club for choosing to support our group,” she said.

“Donations from the community are imperative in keeping this service running and we are incredibly grateful to Roy, Graham, Ray and Brian and everyone involved for choosing to donate the money to Sunbeams.

“I would also like to thank Paul Warne, Richie Barker and John Breckin for taking the time out to come and present the cheque. Rotherham United have been incredibly supportive of the group since we set up seven years ago and that backing has helped to raise its profile whilst giving some of its young members some fantastic memories.”
