Rotherham United have had representation on the international stage in recent weeks as a number of youngsters have departed South Yorkshire to play for their nations.

Ciaran Toner took the time to express his pride at the Academy players being called up to their respective nations with four players in total spending time away from the club recently.

“We've got Reece and Tyrone Lewthwaite out on international duty with Northern Ireland for a few days,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“We have Joshua Kayode and George McMahon away with the Republic of Ireland for just over a week or so and it's great recognition for the recruitment side and the development that we have done with these players.

“Quite a few of them are new internationals and didn't come here having represented their countries, so I think that is a great reflection on the programme and it's nice for us as staff.

“Ultimately we're very careful about how we expose them to that experience and we're constantly reminding them that there is still a long way for them to go.

“We're a grounded football club and a grounded town and our values are not to be getting carried away with these sorts of things. There's a long way for a lot of these lads to go and these are nice stepping stones for them along their paths really.”
