Rotherham United Community Sports Trust (RUCST) are delighted to have raised over £16,000 for charities in and around Rotherham with all of this year’s NCS Graduates.

NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 15-17 year olds which helps build skills for work and life whilst taking on new challenges and meeting new friends.

During the summer 546 young people from Rotherham and surrounding areas embarked on an once-in-a-lifetime experience with RUCST. As part of their four week programme, these exceptional young people have taken the opportunity to take part in some incredible social action projects, some of which included raising money for local charities including Rotherham Rise, Safe@Last and Rotherham Sight and Sound alongside 29 others!

NCS Recruitment Officer Levi Ashton said that “it’s always amazing to see the great ideas and hard work these young people put into their NCS social action. We saw some truly inspiring projects this year and you could see the bond that the group had from the experience of their first two weeks”

Safe@Last were one of the recipients of the hard work of NCS participants and received £1197.94 from fundraisers such as sponsored walks, bake sales and even sitting out in the streets as those young homeless people would, locking away their luxury items to show their commitment! Jay Yerral, Fundraising Coordinator for the youth homeless charity Safe@Last said; “it’s always a delight working with the young people of Rotherham, for me they dispel the negative myths of young people portrayed by the media and show such passion in making a change”.

If you or someone you may know is interested in NCS there are still places available on our Autumn half-term programme departing on the 30th October. Contact Rotherham United Community Sports Trust on 01709 827767 or email lashton@rotherhamunited.net for information on how to sign up.
