Matt Hamshaw talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United first team/development coach Matt Hamshaw admitted he was impressed by the display from a mixed reserve side which prevailed as 1-0 victors over Mansfield Town on Tuesday afternoon.

The likes of David Ball, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Alex Bray and Jerry Yates were all named in the starting 11 to face a strong Stags outfit in the Central League and it was the former who proved the difference, winning and scoring the penalty which marked the only goal of the game.

Hamshaw expressed his pleasure as the Millers made it two wins in a week following their triumph at Portsmouth at the weekend, whilst explaining that the game served as a useful experience for the younger players involved.

“It was really good for everybody connected with the club to continue winning,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“They had a very strong team out and we started with five or six younger lads and by the end of the game we had an Under 18 back four in place.

“It was really good for the young players and we spoke after the game about learning to manage games and that's kind of the difference when you go from the Academy to first team level.

“I thought certainly with the help of the older pros, the younger lads got a great learning experience.”
