Academy trio Tyrone Lewthwaite, Tom Maguire and Reece McGinley have all been included in the recent Northern Ireland under 19 squad.
The Millers’ recent scorer Lewthwaite has been called up for the first time for a series friendlies against Cyprus.
This is the 16-year-old’s first taste of international football, and Academy manager Garreth Barker believes it will only spur his Rotherham United teammates on to follow in his, and his international colleague’s, footsteps.
“We’ve had three players – Reece McGinley, Tom Maguire and Tyrone Lewthwaite – who have all been called up,” Garreth explained.
“They’ve been called up for friendlies with the view to them being part of the European Championships squad in October.
"It’s good for us in terms of our profile but it means we’re doing a good job with the players if we’re developing players who can get international recognition.
"Well done to all the lads."
Following the double-header with Cyprus, Stephen Frail will lead the under 19s against Poland on October 4th.
