READ | Millers to welcome Young Lions back to Rotherham in November

11 October 2017

Rotherham United’s AESSEAL New York Stadium will once again play host to international fixtures in November, after being selected to stage a England U17s clash with Germany.

The Millers’ home has been chosen to host the fixture, which is one of a number in the four-team tournament in November involving England MU17s, with the club having successfully staged similar matches in the past.

The next generation of international talent will be in town on Tuesday 14th November (7pm) as England meet with Germany, by which time they will have already taken on Portugal and Russia with St. George’s Park, Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium and Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium also selected as venues for the tournament.

Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart expressed his pride at the opportunity to welcome the national team once more to AESSEAL New York Stadium and admits that he expects another exciting encounter this time around.

“We have hosted many of these fixtures successfully in the past and we were absolutely thrilled to be contacted by our friends at the FA to ask us to stage another,” he told www.themillers.co.uk

“It is once again England v Germany, which I am sure you will all agree promises to be an entertaining encounter at any age level.

“These games have always been well-attended in the past and I am sure that the Rotherham public will again come out in force to support their international side, whilst getting the opportunity to get a first glimpse at the next generation of talent.

“You need to look no further than the recent international senior call-up for Harry Winks, and the progress that our former loanee Izzy Brown has gone on to make, with both players having showcased their abilities here at AESSEAL New York Stadium in a similar fixture.”

Steve Cooper will lead a squad who played two behind-closed-doors matches at The FA’s national football centre and a friendly tournament decider against Italy at Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough home in August.

Cooper said: "We're looking forward to visiting each of the venues and preparing for a major tournament in front of our home crowds."
