Reserves beaten by Port Vale...

Rotherham United’s reserves suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Port Vale on Wednesday as they locked horns with the Burslem-based club in The Central League.

Anton Forrester set the hosts on their way with his 13th minute strike before substitute Kuda Muskwe restored parity after the half time interval.

However, the Millers weren’t level for long as Harry Benns struck in the final 10 minutes to ensure the hosts sealed the points.

After Forrester struck the opener, Jerry Yates threatened a response following good work from Jonson Clarke-Harris but a superb double save from Ryan Boot in the Vale goal denied the visitors in their best chance of the opening half.

Provider almost turned predator five minutes after the restart after Yates and Reece McGinley combined to produce a chance for Clarke-Harris, who was again denied by a good save from the impressive Boot.

It looked like the Millers may have found a leveller from a Clarke-Harris set piece shortly after, but Boot would thwart him again as his goalbound effort was saved.

The Millers got their reward 15 minutes from the end for their persistence when substitute Muskwe advanced into the area before emphatically smashing home a cross to make it 1-1.

The two sides were only on terms for around five minutes though as Port Vale put themselves back in front.

It was another substitute that would register his name on the scoresheet as Benns applied the finish to a low cross from the left from close range to ensure the hosts the victory.

Millers | Price; Trialist, Southern-Cooper, Onariase, Hinds; Bailey-King, Warren, Wiles, Bray; Yates, Clarke-Harris.
