RUCST | Ability Counts Football

Disability football has changed its name to ability counts football. We have changed the name as we weren’t happy with the stigma around the word disability. All our participants are in fact able to play the sport, whether they have a physical disability, hearing/visual impairment, intellectual disability etc.

Due to feedback from a few parents and other clubs in the country, we feel that it’s right to make the change now and get away from the word ‘disability’. We want our players to know that everyone has an ability to play football and other sports. Even though there is some barriers out there, we can work together to make it inclusive for everyone.

Throughout the country, the adult teams play in leagues called the Ability Counts League ran by their local FA, including our very own adult teams who play in the South Yorkshire Ability Counts League representing Rotherham United. This gives the two junior teams a clear pathway so they can see how they can progress through the age groups.

We currently have two junior teams (under 12 team & under 16 team) and two adults teams (premiership and championship level) . These teams currently play once a month in organised fixtures against local teams. We are also currently looking for a sponsor to provide a new kit for our 4 teams, for further information on how you can support us and how we can advertise your company please contact Jack Pitchford on the contact details below.

We train at Wickersley School & Sports College every Saturday morning (term time only). Adults 9:30am–10:30am & Juniors 10:45am-11:45am. Sessions are £3 however your first session will be free. If this is something that interests you or someone you know please contact Jack Pitchford on 01709 827767 / jpitchford@rotherhamunited.net
