Tommy Docherty to return to Rotherham this weekend as Breck's guest...
Rotherham United are delighted to welcome former manager Tommy Docherty as the club’s special guest at Saturday’s home game with Shrewsbury Town.
This month marks 50 years since Tommy’s appointment as manager of the Millers, and we are delighted that he has accepted our invitation to be our guest of honour at this weekend’s game.
Alongside Tommy there will be a host of his former players including Dave Bentley, Roy Tunks, Steve Downes, Trevor Womble and his first and most popular signing Johnny Quinn.
Tommy will be introduced to the fans before the game this weekend, and will be in the hospitality lounge alongside John Breckin throughout the afternoon.
“I am delighted to welcome Tommy back to Rotherham to mark 50 years since his appointment as manager,” said Rotherham United’s John Breckin.
“His appointment was massive national news, and it would be the modern day equivalent of someone like Alex Ferguson or Jose Mourinho coming to Rotherham. That’s how big the appointment was at the time.
“I’ve spoken to Tommy and he is tremendously excited about coming back, and he is especially looking forward to meeting some of his former players for the first time in 50 years.”
There is a special feature on Tommy by Les Payne in Saturday's edition of the Millers' matchday programme.
