Millers confirm Richie Smallwood will leave at end of current deal...

Rotherham United can confirm that midfielder Richie Smallwood will leave the club at the end of his contract, after opting to turn down a new deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The Millers have been involved in negotiations with the former Middlesbrough man and his representatives since the final game of the 2016/17 season, but have failed to agree terms with the 26-year-old, who will depart following the expiration of his current deal.

The Redcar-born anchor man played a pivotal role in the club’s promotion to the Championship, playing the entirety of the Play-off final and scoring his penalty in the shootout against Leyton Orient, before going on to play a key role for the Millers in the second tier.

Everyone at Rotherham United would like to thank Richie for his commitment during his time with the club and look forward to giving him a warm welcome should his future endeavours see him return to AESSEAL New York Stadium.
