Paul Warne talks to www.themillers.co.uk

Rotherham United boss Paul Warne says Dave Frecklington’s Gainsborough Trinity were the perfect pre-season opponents on Tuesday night, as the Millers continue to step up their preparations for the 2017/18 League One campaign following their return from Austria.

Warne’s men were faced with a high intensity, spirited performance befitting of the Frecklington family name upon their arrival in Lincolnshire on Tuesday night, which ensured the strong squad that travelled to Northolme had to work hard for their 1-0 win, which came courtesy of Jamie Proctor’s fourth goal in as many games for his new club.

The win signalled a double triumph on Tuesday night with Richie Barker and Mike Pollitt overseeing a 2-0 triumph at Alfreton Town thanks to goals from David Ball and Jon Taylor, and while the Millers’ boss says his side weren’t at their best, he was pleased with the performance that saw them overcome their non-league counterparts.

“I don't think we were as polished as we've been in previous games,” Warne explained after the match.

“The lads trained in the morning so we they had a bit of fatigue in them, but there were sharp bits of play and some blunt bits.

“As a game, that was perfect for us. They were a fit bunch and they were physical and I told the lads not to underestimate them and I think for the first 10 minutes or so they might have.

Paul Warne, Manager

“Once they got their rhythm I thought they were good, it's a bit disappointing we didn't get more goals because I think our play at times deserved it.

“Generally though, it was another clean sheet and another game where they got another 90 minutes under their belts.”
