Ben Purrington talks to www.themillers.co.uk for the first time...

New Rotherham United signing Ben Purrington says it was the right time to leave his boyhood club after completing a move from Plymouth Argyle.

The 20-year-old penned a three-and-a-half year deal with the Millers today after successfully completing medical this afternoon.

The left-back, who has joined for an undisclosed fee, makes his first move away from the South Coast, after rising through the youth ranks at Home Park.

Now Purrington feels the time is right to spread his wings, citing the Millers as the perfect place to take his career to the next stage.

"I am delighted to be here and get a move to a Championship club. I am really happy to get the deal over the line and I am looking forward to a good few years at Rotherham.

"I have been at Plymouth for 11 years now so it will be a bit different, and will take some getting used to. I am delighted to get it done, I'm a long way from home but it will be good for my career.

"Every player at some point has to move away from home. This move felt right so hopefully it will be a good move.”

Purrington burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old making his debut with Argyle back in 2013. After his initial breakthrough into the senior setup, he sent the next couple of years furthering his football education with a handful of first team appearances.

This season he caught the eye of a number of clubs after a string of consistent and impressive displays, as Plymouth maintained in League Two’s promotion places.

"I made my debut down there at 17, then I had a good few years when I got some appearances under my belt and in the last few years my game has really come along,” he added.

"I've played a few games in central midfield, but predominantly I’m a left back and I feel that is my best position. I liked to get up and down the pitch, but get forward as a much as I can.
