Paul Warne post Huddersfield...

A stoppage-time winner for Huddersfield Town knocked the Millers for six after a sterling and spirited performance from Paul Warne’s side.

The Millers' interim boss saw his side race into the lead twice - through Ajayi and Adeyemi - only to be pegged back as many times, before a late goal made it 3-2 to the visitors.

“I’ve got to take any consolation, I’ve got to take positives where I can,” said Warne, speaking to the press. “I was proud of the lads and I thought we played well – competing toe-to-toe for 90 minutes of the game. We created some good chances and we looked exciting, at times. We were good on set-pieces, attacking, and we were a goal-threat.”

“To score two at home, on another day, is enough to win the game. But, unfortunately, we conceded a goal like that. The lad’s hit it true and got right behind it.

“It was disappointing, I have to take positives. In regards to the performance I’m proud of the team.”

It looked as though Tom Adeyemi’s thunderous strike had sent the Millers on their way to all three points as the midfielder’s 25-yard strike made it 2-1, but the Terriers hit back with two late strikes to sink the hosts’ hearts.

“Tom Adeyemi’s hit it well,” continued Warne. “He’s always good at linking with the striker and getting into good areas to score goals. He’s done well and had a few other little chances. I felt reasonably comfortable even though they’re a good side. They’re attacking all the time, they’ve got pace, the subs come on and I’m thinking we might ride a bit of lady luck tonight. Unfortunately, the ricochet falls to Smith and he hits a screamer into the bottom corner.

“They’ve given me everything they’ve got. I knew we were going to lose the battle in the middle of the pitch but I thought we would create problems with our two up top. I thought Jerry and Wardy led the line well. We were aggressive and tried to trouble them, we looked like we were going to get goals.

“In the end their class showed. It’s hard to take in the 93rd minute. I just hope my fans were entertained by the game. It’s disappointing with the result but I’m proud of them.

“I just think right at the end, the lads struggled to retain the ball.

“Maybe we could have run out the clock a bit better but we were trying to get the three points ourselves.

“We go out every game and, even if it was mathematically impossible for us to stay up, I’d still demand 100 percent out of each and every single one of them every game. We prepare the games like that.

“The lads are proud to wear the shirt of this great club as I am to manage it. I just hope we get the results the fans want to see.”
