Paul Warne post MK Dons...

Rotherham United boss Paul Warne assessed his side’s 2-1 victory over MK Dons at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“I thought we were excellent today,” said Warne. “The only thing that lacked from our performance was a third goal. That would have put a lot of nerves at ease.

“The last three games we were a little bit down on size for obvious reasons. Jerry and Bally up top were ace today but on set-pieces they were definitely bigger and stronger than us. So I asked the lads to defend with their lives on set-pieces, and I thought they did that. That was the only real threat I felt they had against us.

“I thought we created more than enough chances to win a game. Today I was pleased with both the performance and the result. I’m just disappointed we didn’t get the third goal our play merited.”

All of the goals came in the first half with the visitors’ lead which came courtesy of a Chuks Aneke free-kick being overturned by an own goal and a stunning strike from Will Vaulks.

“Well, Semi reckons it’s his but it’s the ugliest looking goal I’ve ever seen. I’m not too sure but Semi is claiming it. I haven’t watched it back yet.”

“I think that at 1-0 down, there’s always pressure to go and win at home and I felt we bounced back well to go in 2-1 at half-time.

“We were pretty pleased but changed one or two things we weren’t happy about. Their ‘keeper made a great save for them with 20 seconds gone in the second half. Then saved one off Bally. If we’d have got the third goal I think we’d have gone on to get more.

“One to eleven the performances of the lads was excellent. Jerry and Bally really ran tirelessly and caused them all sorts of problems. With the team as a whole, it’s difficult to change anything when you see a performance like that. It’s just a good day at the office.

“In fairness to him (Jerry) he was causing problems in the air. Jerry’s got pretty good timing and uses his body quite well. I’m just disappointed he didn’t get the goal he deserved.

“I don’t know how many times we broke away at the end and nearly scored. It’s good to win, I just think the lads deserved a bit more.

“A great goal (from Will) and a nice home win. It’s good to go in at Christmas with a win and we’ve got the Chairman’s ball tonight.”
