Milles remain unbeaten with 1-1 draw at York...

Rotherham United’s Academy maintained their unbeaten start to the 2017/18 Youth Alliance League campaign, as they recorded a 1-1 draw away at York City.

The Millers faced off with the Minstermen in their second outing of the new season, having successfully seen off the challenge of Oldham Athletic on the opening day, with Tyrone Lewthwaite’s goal ensuring they came from behind to earn a point.

A slip in the visitors’ defence saw Garreth Barker’s side fall behind at York, but substitute Lewthwaite grabbed his opportunity with both hands, etching his name onto the scoresheet after entering the fray for the final half hour of the game and earning himself a call-up to the Northern Ireland U19s squad in the process.

“We drew there and got a point. We were of the same mindset again, that we could have played better, however, after two away games to have four points is something we'll take and be happy with,” Barker told www.themillers.co.uk.

“Our early targets are that we want to get 10 out of the first 12 points available. We're still on schedule for that but obviously just need a couple of wins.

“Tyrone is a first year that came on as a substitute and scored what I thought was a fantastic header.

“He played about 35 minutes and off the back of that the Northern Ireland U19s coach was watching and he's had a call-up this week. He'll be going with Reece McGinley and Tom Maguire, who are in the squad anyway. He's only 16 and he'll be representing his country at U19s level and that'll be against Cyprus.”
