Jon Taylor talks to www.themillers.co.uk...
WINGER Jon Taylor has called on his Rotherham United side to finish their Championship era with a flourish – to give them the best opportunity to bounce back at the first attempt.
It is widely perceived within footballing circles that how a team finishes their season can sometimes dictate how they start the following campaign, and although the Millers know they will be plying their trade in England’s third tier for the first time in four seasons, Taylor insists it is vitally important that his side do not carry any Championship hangover into their League One assault if they are to mount a successful promotion challenge at the first time of asking.
“Obviously, we’ve got to aim for promotion, next season,” Taylor insisted.
“We have been losing a lot of games this season, but as a squad, we know how good we are.
“If everyone sticks together and believes in it, then I’m sure we can do it. It’s important we start winning games, give good memories for everyone and take this club back to the Championship.”
Taylor readily admits that his side have fallen short of their expectations this season, but he insists that the Millers players will be fighting tooth and nail to ensure the AESSEAL New York Stadium faithful go into the close season in good heart - a process they started with last weekend's victory over Ipswich.
“We know we have been relegated but the lads are still working their socks off and not taking the games for granted,” Taylor insisted.
“Everyone is working hard and everyone wants to do well for themselves, the manager and the club.
“There is still a lot of things to fight for. We have to put on a performance for our fans that watch us every week and have travelled to watch us all season.
“There is still loads to play for and it means a lot to us to play for this club.”
