Over the summer we held a football camp specifically aimed for kids with special needs regardless of their ability within football. Running alongside the Future Stars holiday camp at Wickersley School, the Disability Summer Camp was attended on average 10 participants every week. The main aim was to make sure we had a session availabe for our current disability team, as well as providing a weekly football session for anyone who had not been a part of our development centre before.
Following the summer camp, we held our first training session of the season at Wickersley School on Saturday 10th September. This saw two new participants attend, following our successful Summer Camp.
One of them was Edward, seen at the front of the photo. Jack Pitchford (Disability Coach) said “Edward first came to our Summer Camp, in which he enjoyed a day at Wickersley as well as our Rio Unites event that we held a paralympic styled event for kids with special needs. It was clear to see Edward is hugely passionate about sport, as he doesn’t let his disability prevent him from participating. Edward came to our development centre training on Saturday morning and put in all his effort to develop his footballing skills”.
