Rotherham United defender Richard Wood says that there will be an added incentive for him and his teammates to record victory this weekend as they meet with Leeds United in an all-Yorkshire affair at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

South meets West Yorkshire in front of the Sky Sports cameras as the two sides do battle in the Sky Bet Championship and Ossett-born Wood says he realises the significance of the fixture and has urged his side to excel in the heat of the derby atmosphere.

“There is for me, coming from the area as well,” he told

“I always love to play in the derby games but the players realise how important they are even if they aren't from around here.

“Leeds will be bringing a decent following with them and the atmosphere will be good and something that we need to thrive on.”

The 31-year-old also added that he believes the Millers should be looking to accumulate a healthy points tally from their upcoming games ahead of the turn of the year.

“That's what we need to do. The window opens in January and we need to get as many points as we can before then,” Wood continued.

“There's seven games between now and then and they're against teams that are around us in the table so we need to pick up points.

“If we can narrow the gap it will be a good thing leading into the New Year."
