Joe Newell talks to www.themillers.co.uk...
Rotherham United midfielder Joe Newell says new manager Kenny Jackett has already given the club a lift, despite only being appointed to the Millers’ hotseat just over a week ago.The 23-year-old is looking forward to working under the experienced Sky Bet Championship boss and took time to pay tribute to Jackett’s career in the game so far when speaking to www.themillers.co.uk.
"When a new manager comes in, it gives everyone a lift straight away, the players, the staff and the fans," Newell explained.
"It was hard for him as he was only with us the day before the [Reading] game.
“He's managed Millwall and Wolves and he's done very well. He's got a very good reputation and pedigree and all the lads are looking forward to working with him. We will see how it goes.”
Newell endured a frustrating start to the 2016/17 campaign, missing out on a full pre-season programme as he recovered from an ankle operation at the back end of last season, but says he is getting closer to full fitness with each match he is involved in.
"Every game I play, the fitter I feel, I'm just trying to stay on the pitch a bit longer," the Birmingham-born midfielder joked.
"It's good to be in the team and it's my job to try and stay in the team. The manager is going to come in and give everyone a clean slate. We will work on things on the training ground and it's up to me and the other lads to show him what we can do."
