Rotherham United's Academy are on the lookout for goalkeepers...

Rotherham United’s Academy are to stage open trials for goalkeepers as they step up their search for the next generation of stoppers.

The Millers, who successfully held trials for all age groups earlier this year, are set to welcome youngsters on Tuesday 29th November at the Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park on Bawtry Road.

The Academy are specifically looking at the under 8 and under 9 age group, with lead foundation phase coach Jake Henry looking to scour the local area for budding goalkeepers.

"After the success of our earlier trials, we are now looking through it from a more goalkeeper specific perspective, particularly with the under 8s and 9s,” Jake told www.themillers.co.uk

“We are looking to get the hottest prospects in the area come through to us and it is something that we really want to improve on as an Academy especially in the younger age groups.

"Our head of Academy goalkeeper coach Rob Poulter will be taking the session, so he has designed an hour of activities for the boys to work with their feet and hands. There will be some shot stopping work, and there will be an opportunity for them to show what they can do physically and technically. Rob will be there to give his expert advise along with our coaches in the foundation phase.”

The trials will take place between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. To register interest please email name, date of birth, age group, grassroots team, school, phone number and email address to Richard Hairyes at: rhairyes@rotherhamunited.net
