Rotherham United Community Sports Trust continue to deliver Youth Club sessions in local Mosque (Ridge Road)

The Trust have been delivering a boys specific youth club at Ridge Road Mosque for the past 10 weeks as part of its involvement in the Base Project. The Youth Club is the first to be based at a Mosque within Rotherham and has seen on average 20 boys each week taking part. The group have taken part in a range of workshops and activities including healthy eating, personal safety, healthy relationships and the importance of fitness. The project has helped the Trust break down barriers and begin to build positive relationships with the Muslim community. The work started with a series of stadium tours in December that led to the starting of the youth club in February.

Mark Cummins Community Manager commented: “the youth club at Ridge Road has been a roaring success, we have been made to feel incredibly welcome in what is a fantastic space for the community. I am sure this is the first youth club in Rotherham to take place within a mosque and judging by the positive feedback we have received it certainly won’t be the last. The challenge for us now is to spread the project and work across more of the Mosques with girls and adult work already in the pipeline. I would like to thank Nizz Sabir for his support getting the project going and everyone at Ridge Road for helping us”

The Trust look forward to delivering more quality and fun Youth Club sessions across Rotherham, if you would like to find out more information or get involved please contact Mark Cummins on 01709 827767 or email mcummins@rotherhamunited.net.
