A group of Rotherham United supporters have raised over £1000 for a charity of the Warnock family’s choice after a suggestion on social media triggered a host of donations.

The fundraising was fronted by Millers fans Laura Billington and John Nixon (pictured) but was backed by hundreds of Rotherham United supporters wishing to show their support and thanks to Sharon Warnock for allowing her husband to take the helm at AESSEAL New York Stadium earlier in the season.

Alongside the cheque was a bottle of whiskey for the Millers’ manager and a bouquet of flowers for his wife which were sent down to their family home in Cornwall on the team bus via Bristol City.

The Millers boss found time to meet with Laura and John prior to the trip to Hull City and admitted he was touched by the generosity of the club’s fans, adding that the support for Sharon since his arrival had been overwhelming.

“The fans have been superb since my arrival both on and off the pitch and the kindness that they have shown to myself and Sharon has been truly heartfelt,” Warnock told www.themillers.co.uk.

“I passed the cheque on to Sharon at the weekend and she was really touched that the money had been raised in her name.

“She is having her last bout of chemotherapy today and she told me how pleased she was that such a substantial amount had been raised, which she will be donating to a Breast Cancer charity.”

Rotherham United would also like to place on record it’s thanks to fans for their generosity and support for Neil and Sharon Warnock.
