Lee Frecklington talks to www.themillers.co.uk...
Rotherham United club captain Lee Frecklington says the atmosphere in the dressing room at AESSEAL New York Stadium is the best it has been in his time with the club. The popular midfielder, who experienced consecutive promotions with the Millers, insists the aura around the club is more like that of a side fighting to go up rather than one trying to preserve their Sky Bet Championship status.
“The mood in the camp is the best I have known,” Frecklington told www.themillers.co.uk
“Training has been really enjoyable and there is a really positive atmosphere around the place. The atmosphere feels like we are in a promotion fight, it is very similar to the end of the season when we got promotion to The Championship.”
“There is a long way to go but if we can keep this run going and we achieve our aims then it will feel like a promotion.”
The energetic former Peterborough United man admits the international break was bittersweet for the Millers squad, with the lack of a fixture halting their good progress but allowing them time to recoup ahead of the Sky Bet Championship run-in.
“We have been on a good run of form so from that point of view the break came at the wrong time, but looking at it we have had a lot of games recently so it was important to get a rest,” Frecklington added.
“The lads have had a few days off and we have all come back looking refreshed ready for the weekend.
Steve Evans returns to AESSEAL New York Stadium for the first time as an opposing manager as he leads his Leeds United team into battle on Saturday and Frecklington is looking forward to getting back to action in front of the home fans ahead of the Yorkshire derby.
“It is always a great feeling to play at AESSEAL New York Stadium. The fans have been brilliant, especially in the last few weeks,” Frecklington enthused.
“Leeds are in town for a Yorkshire derby so the atmosphere will be electric again, it is a game we are all looking forward to.
“It is a massive month for us with loads of games, and it starts this Saturday with a massive derby against Leeds."
