International Women’s Day celebrated in style!

9 March 2016

Tuesday 8th of March 2016 marked the annual International Women’s day which was celebrated by Rotherham United Community Sports Trust throughout the day, luckily it fell on a Tuesday when Rotherham United faced top of the league Middlesbrough, and with this in mind it seemed fitting to continue the celebrations throughout the night at that fixture.

Various different guests were invited along to watch The Millers and celebrate this annual event, some of the attendees included Brinsworth Whitehill Girls J.F.C, Rotherham United Ladies and participants who attend the ladies Boot camp sessions we deliver at Eastwood Village Community Centre, Thornhill Primary School and Blackburn Youth Club.

All groups invited were taken pitch side which gave them a chance to watch the players warm up which provided a perfect opportunity for them to get photos in the home dug-out prior to kick off.

Several players from Brinsworth Whitehill Girls J.F.C were also selected for the random acts of kindness which gave them an opportunity to be a Flag Bearer at the game.

Being the charitable side of the Football Club, we work with a wide range of people in our local community, through the power of football we promote physical and emotional health, healthy eating, healthy lifestyle, learning, confidence building, social integration and community cohesion. It is important for us that we recognise these annual celebration events as everyone who attends our sessions or events deserve the recognition for their hard work and commitment.

Jamie Noble (Head of Community) said “Celebrations have been taking part throughout the day for the International Women’s Day, and luckily we have had the opportunity to continue this at tonight’s fixture. It’s fantastic to see various different groups and communities come together and support this event, and to make the night even more memorable The Millers Got all 3 points with a late goal at the New York Stadium.

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust would like to thank everyone who came along to help celebrate International Women’s Day.
