Rotherham United’s fundraising cyclists are ready for another tilt at the UK to Amsterdam ride after successfully completing the 2016 event.

Paul Truin, Kaspars Paulins and Trevor Price set off from Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium before cycling to Hull and later onto Amsterdam all in aid of Prostate Cancer UK – the EFL’s official charity partner.

Trevor, a photographer at many of the Millers’ home and away fixtures, completed the gruelling ride crossing the line alongside Paul and Kaspars, and admitted that he is already looking forward to next year.

“It was a terrific occasion and I am already planning for next year,” beamed Trevor.

“I have already spoken to around six people who are interested so it will be nice if we can get some more Rotherham riders for 2017.”

From the initial event in 2013 which included a small group of 35 riders, the event has certainly grown over the past three years.

With a total fundraising tally which will smash through the £1m mark this year thanks to a biggest ever peloton; the football-themed cycling challenge has proved a phenomenal success throughout its four years.

“It was a little chaotic at the start with everyone leaving Oakwell but we soon got into our stride,” Trevor added.

“It was nice to catch up with people on the water and lunch stops at Doncaster and Goole. There we had chance to chat with some of the other riders on how they had got involved.

“I found the first half quite tough at times, but we made it to Hull for the overnight ferry in good spirits. The ferry gave us another opportunity to sit down and chat with the other members of the ride.

“The 70 miles or so we did in Holland on day two I found a little easier and I found I could relax a little bit more, as they had cycle paths that were tailor-made for bikes.

“I met some Rotherham fans over there which was good and in the final stage, they arranged for us to cross the line in 12’s so it was nice to finish it together.”
