Alan Stubbs talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

New Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs is speaking to potential transfer targets as he looks to make his first signing as Millers boss.

After having just over a week to assess his current squad, the former Hibernian manager is now looking at bolstering his ranks ahead of the big kick off on August 6th.

With a return to pre-season training pencilled in for the 30th June, Stubbs is confident of adding some new faces ahead of meeting the players for the first time.

Whilst the June period is a notoriously quiet time in the transfer market, Stubbs confirmed that he is speaking to targets ahead of what is set to be a busy recruitment drive.

“We have got one or two targets that we are speaking to, and we have also spoken to another club about a player, we will just have to wait and see how that materialises,” he told www.themillers.co.uk

“Everything seems quite quiet at the moment, but I am actively on the phone to agents probably for at least three hours a day which is a good thing.

“Behind the scenes we are very active, more so with showing our intentions, but there is still a lot of work to be done. This is a quiet period but I am sure as we get back to pre-season at the end of this month things will start to really get busy.”

With 11 players leaving the AESSEAL New York Stadium at the end of the 2015/16 season, the club opened talks with five others prior to Stubbs’ appointment.

Leon Best has since departed, but the 44-year-old earlier confirmed that talks are continuing with other out of contract players with a resolution expected shortly.

The Millers are also set to confirm more dates for pre-season friendlies following the announcement last week that Stubbs will face former club Sunderland on Saturday 23rd July at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
