Alan Stubbs speaks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs has confirmed discussions with the Millers’ out of contract players are reaching their conclusion.

The new boss has been in discussions with the four remaining players who have yet to decide their future as he looks to forge ahead with his squad rebuilding for next season.

Leon Best has already departed the AESSEAL New York Stadium, with decisions surrounding Kirk Broadfoot, Matt Derbyshire, Stephen Kelly and Richard Wood due shortly.

Now into his first full week at the helm, Stubbs is looking for a speedy resolution to negotiations as talks continue.

“I have made contact with all of them now and the discussions that we have had have been quite positive,” he told www.themillers.co.uk

“The negotiations are still ongoing, but as we speak right now we are hopeful that we can get something concluded.

“With players being away and other things like that you are not as able to get things done as quickly as you would like.

“The most important thing is that we are actively speaking with their representatives, and I have spoken to the lads personally as well, and we are looking to conclude negotiations as quickly as possible.”

Stubbs will also be focusing his attention to finalising plans for pre-season after confirming that his squad will be returning for training on the 30th June.

The new Sky Bet Championship fixtures and the draw for the first round of the League Cup are due out on June 22nd.

The new season kicks off on Saturday 6th August.
