Alan Stubbs talks to www.themillers.co.uk...
Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs says he is ‘very excited’ about what new signing Anthony Forde will add to this side.
The Millers unveiled the 22-year-old as their first close season signing after the former Wolves winger agreed a three-year contract with the club.
Forde joined up with his new team mates at Roundwood for the opening day of pre-season training, as Stubbs met his squad in full for the first time.
The Millers boss revealed he was delighted to get the deal over the line, and believes Forde’s quality will make him a major asset for the club.
“It is a good to be able to announce that we have got Anthony over the line, and what we’ll find is that we have got a young, exciting player,” Stubbs told www.themillers.co.uk
“He is quick, he likes to dribble with the ball and we are very excited about what he will bring to the team.
“He had a great season at Walsall, contributing significantly with goals as well as assists and we are really excited about what he can bring to the club.”
Forde played a prominent role in helping Walsall reach the League One Play-off semi-finals last season, ending his two-year stay with the Saddlers with 98 appearances to his name.
He is a former Republic of Ireland under 21 international, who also has Premier League experience from his time at Wolves.
“He has a lot of potential and we are hopeful that we can progress him even further, and hopefully the step up to The Championship is a platform where he can excel again.
“With him having such a good season last season, he is someone even when I was up in Scotland that you take note of. We are delighted now that we are in a position where can say we have signed him and I am looking forward to working with him.
“As a winger he works very hard for the team, he is very understanding of his role. He doesn’t just look to be positive going forward, he is also very aware of his responsibilities going back. He has got great delivery from set pieces, and I am sure that will add goals to the team.”
