Alan Stubbs talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs says that tying down club captain Lee Frecklington to a new deal will mark a signal of intent to other potential summer recruitment targets.

The Millers boss expressed his pleasure after the Lincoln-born midfielder pledged his future to the club and believes Frecklington signing on the dotted line could pave the way for a number of other targets to do the same.

“I’m delighted that he’s signed and he’s seen his future here and it bodes well for other signings that we make in the coming days and weeks,” Stubbs told www.themillers.co.uk.

“I think it was important for me and for Lee that we got his deal organised and settled and it was one of a number that we’d identified and we were discussing with to try and tie them down and we’re glad to be able to say we’ve managed to do that now.”

The popular midfielder was the club captain during the 2015/16 campaign and Stubbs believes his new deal is a fitting reward for his contribution to Rotherham United since his arrival in 2013.

“As club captain it’s a reward for what he’s been doing over the last number of years at the club,” he explained.

“I think it’s important that everyone we give a new contract to, we do it because we feel that they’re going to add to the playing squad and Lee, not just over the last couple of seasons but the number of years that he’s been here, has added quality to the team all the time.

“He’s the club captain and I think that speaks for itself and the clubs that I’ve been at I’ve always had a good working relationship with my captain and with Lee that won’t be any different."
