Rotherham United held the first ever Ramadan 5aside midnight Trophy in Rotherham, the competition was targeted at adults during the holy month of Ramadan being delivered in the early hours of the morning at Rotherham Football Centre. The tournament saw 10 teams take part and over 80 people participating, this culminated in a finals night where an eventual winner came through after 4 weeks’ worth of intense competition. The project was part of Rotherham United Community Sports Trust’s Community Sport Activation Fund which is funded by Sport England. The project seeks to give adults from the central belt of Rotherham increased access to sport and physical activity, to date the project has worked with over 300 people delivering a range of sports including football, rounders, netball and dance.

Mark Cummins Community Manager commented: “the Ramadan Trophy was a huge success being played in a competitive but friendly atmosphere, the wider project is about delivering sport and physical activity locally and to suite demand from diverse communities. I would like to thank Rotherham Football Centre for opening the centre to accommodate us in the early hours, from how well received the tournament was I certainly think it will become an annual feature. Congratulations to everyone who took part!”
