Alan Stubbs talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

It is a day of down time for much of the Rotherham United squad as manager Alan Stubbs allows for some rest of ahead Friday’s game with Gornik Zabrze.

The Millers started their tour of Poland with a victory over Miedz Legnica, after goals from Jerry Yates and Richie Smallwood earned Stubbs’ side a deserved victory.

After two days of training in the intense Polish heat, Stubbs has allowed his squad some time off before preparations are stepped up in time for Friday’s third pre-season friendly.

“We are happy with the trip in terms of the workload we are getting into the players,” Stubbs told www.themillers.co.uk

“We are keeping on track with that. We have decided to give them their own space and a bit of down time today because they have worked really well. From what I can gather that has gone down quite well. A few of the boys are looking forward to relaxing and doing their own thing today.”

The Millers are set to stay at the training headquarters at Hotel Remes until Sunday, as Stubbs and his staff continue preparations for the Sky Bet Championship curtain raiser with Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 6th.

Behind the scenes Stubbs continues to work on strengthening his squad, yesterday reiterating that he is still close to adding to his touring party.

Whilst in Poland, along with his medical staff, the Millers boss is looking to keep his squad as fresh as possible with a tough session planned for tomorrow.

“I think at this time of year the mindset is train, eat and sleep – that’s the way it is,” he continued.

“It can then become a little lethargic so we have to keep them as bright as possible. They know at this time of year what it entails. It is hard work, but in around a week or so they will all feel the benefits of all the hard work."
