Stephen Kelly talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United defender Stephen Kelly says he is focused on a good pre-season under new boss Alan Stubbs after agreeing a new deal which will see him remain at AESSEAL New York Stadium throughout the 2016/17 campaign.

Kelly, who arrived with the Millers in November last year, admits that Stubbs’ appointment to the managerial hotseat played a big part in his decision to re-sign in South Yorkshire and is keen to get started following the club’s return to pre-season training on Thursday.

“I had a couple of really good conversations with him and we spoke on the phone a lot and he just told me what his plans were for the club and what direction he wanted to go in and that spoke volumes to me,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“For me it was a no-brainer to come in and sign for him and hopefully we can achieve what he wants to achieve and what we all want to achieve.”

“I’m looking forward to getting back in and meeting the new manager and getting everything going really.”

The Republic of Ireland defender is not fazed by the thought of a gruelling pre-season programme and is instead looking forward to the upcoming weeks, which will see the Millers take in a trip to Poland as part of their preparations.

“I can’t wait to get a good pre-season under my belt and really looking forward to getting these five weeks done and dusted and being ready to start the season,” Kelly explained.

“I’m feeling good, feeling healthy and I’m ready to start."
