Alan Stubbs speaks to www.themillers.co.uk...

A Rotherham United XI were beaten 3-1 in a behind closed doors friendly against Tottenham at Spurs’ training headquarters at Enfield.

Alan Stubbs presided over a pre-season workout for his side as he gave an opportunity to first-team and development players to get some minutes under their belt ahead of Saturday’s home friendly with Sunderland.

Danny Ward grabbed the goal for the Millers against a strong Spurs side, and Stubbs admitted that it was a valuable workout for his squad.

“It was great to have the opportunity to play at a Premier League training facility, and the lads came up against a really strong Tottenham side,” Stubbs told www.themillers.co.uk

“There was a lot of Premier League experience on show, but I thought that we played very well at times. There were some really positive periods in the game for us which was very pleasing.

“We obviously made a lot of changes to the side during the game, whereas their strength probably told in the end.

“We started out with a side with a first team feel to it, and for 50 minutes we played some really good stuff. We were leading in the game, but then I made changes with Saturday in mind and in the end Tottenham ran out winners.”

The Millers take on Sunderland this Saturday at AESSEAL New York Stadium, kick off 3pm. Tickets remain on sale online and in store.
